Security Alert – August, 2010

Exostar has recently become aware of spoofed Internet email messages, falling into the category of cyber-attacks known as "phishing" or "spear phishing", being sent to subscribers.

Such email messages – which do not originate from Exostar or Exostar's partner organizations – attempt to mimic valid business email correspondence, and entice recipients into clicking on potentially malicious web links or email attachments.  As a general security practice, users should always inspect incoming email, attachments, and web links before opening them.

Exostar will never ask its subscribers to respond to security questions or request confidential information through insecure channels such as Internet email.

Email messages referencing "exostar.com Account Services" or "exostar.com Team" are particularly suspect – and are not legitimate email from Exostar. There are no groups within Exostar referenced in this way.

If you do encounter suspicious email or have any questions on this topic, please contact Exostar customer service or your organization’s information security officer.
